Pattern alignment
It’s a neat trick to play with a two-color web-to-print pattern. Since you can change the colors of these patterns, you can use the same pattern on your text and background and only change the colors. This, however, requires perfect alignment of the web to print patterns on top of each other to appear seamless.

Before you start

- Add a page frame (Layout/Page Setup/Add Page Frame). This will create a rectangular shape with the exact same size as the paper size of your template and place it as a bottom layer.
- Input the dummy text, set its horizontal alignment and turn it into a variable web-to-print field called Text.
/
In a nutshell, we’ll assign the same two-color pattern fill to both the text frame and the background using different colors for each and align the pattern fills on top of each other.
Two-color pattern
/
Select the background shape, open CorelDRAW Pattern Fill dialog (Toolbox menu/Fill/Pattern Fill…) and assign a two-color pattern to it.
Note. You can use one of the built in CorelDRAW two color patterns or create your own two-color pattern.
/
/
/
/
Since two-color patterns allow color adjustments, you can change the Front and Back colors of the pattern fill.
/
/
Repeat this step to assign the same pattern to the dummy text with at least one different color of the pattern fill.

The result should be similar to this.
Alignment
/
/
To make the two web-to-print patterns look seamless we need to align them perfectly on top of each other so that the background and dummy text fills are continuous.
/
/
/
To achieve this, we’ll have to adjust the origin values to one of the fills (Ex. The dummy text).
/
/
/
Select the dummy text frame, open CorelDraw Pattern Fill dialog (Toolbox menu/Fill/Pattern Fill…) and adjust the Origin values (x and y) till they are perfectly aligned.
/
Note. Check the Transform Fill with object checkbox to ensure the same pattern alignment even after the text is changed by the user.

The result should be similar to this.
All done!
Our web-to-print software can handle this effect easily! Upload the template into your catalog and test it.
